A man with short hair and tattoos on his arms sitting in a black barrel hot tub outdoors, with a surprised or yawning expression. Behind him is a green horsebox sauna and a Glasgow tenement building.
A group of ten cheerful people posing outdoors in front of Glasgow Community Sauna horsebox, with some members kneeling and others standing, all smiling and gesturing energetically.

A round green badge with the word "GACS" in large beige letters, and a simple smiling cartoon face with spiky hair above the text.

Nestled in the back of the Bowling Green, Glasgow Community Sauna is a queer-led community project making the benefits of sauna and cold plunge affordable and accessible to everyone in a natural and cosy setting.

What We’re Building

Since March 2025, we’ve been transforming an old horse box into a mobile community sauna.

Alongside it we’ve built:

  • Plunge barrels (filtered, clean, and cold)

  • Accessible changing facilities

  • Outdoor shower to rinse off

  • A cosy fire space and relaxation area (the yurt)

We’re more than just a sauna. Working in partnership with Bowling Green Together, we want to enhance the space by welcoming more people to the Bowling Green, especially during the colder months.

More about the Bowling Green

Our Build So Far

  1. We started out with a 30-year old horse box, covered in rust and rot.

  2. After 2 months of re-building the walls, cleaning and grinding off all the rust, we had ourselves a shiny frame!

  3. Then insulation and vapour barrier came in.

  4. And cladding with special sauna wood.

  5. Finally the fun part, painting the horse box!
